I'd call you the "C" word but that's best left to McCain to use against his own (second) wife. No, I'm not afraid of a few minor countries arming themselves. I am worried that Israel is armed to the teeth and with an evident blank check from the US can attack whomever it wants with near impunity. I do know that the US falsely attacked Iraq, destroying 100's of thousands of innocent lives, maiming men, women and children. It's the greatest shame the US will ever know. And it's time to get idiots like Bush and McCain away from power where they can't keep harming humans.

Gosh, all these Jeffs!  I think over-population of Jeff's is becoming a problem on TH haha.  Anyways.  I turn to our friend Jeffrey from Michigan.  Apparently liberals are more than happy to stick their heads in the sand as Iran gets their nuclear program in full swing.  Now, I don't know about you, but if I see a person cocking fist to hit me, Im going to do something about it.  This specific liberal is worried that Israel is able to protect itself though.  Now...if only he could site some examples of Israel going on the offensive.  Perhaps he will name the 6 day war, in which Israel - seeing Egypt coming across the Sinai - went on an offensive-defense.  Hardly an argument, but you know how liberal minds work. 

He then claims that we falsly went into iraq.  Hmmm....proof please!  It just so happens that all the intelligence agencies across the world agreed with our CIA about Iraq.  Then we maimed thousands of lives...not the terrorists...but us.  Its all the US's fault right?  I tell ya.  I hope that at death, all lifes questions are answered, because at least liberals will be enlightened at death.

Gramm was involved in the savings and loan crisis, Enron, and the bank deregulation that has led to this week's collapses. Conservative thought has morphed, though. Burke's explanation for why some men were born rich and some poor was that God purposely made that decision. This proved somewhat less than sustainable as democracy grew in the United States following WWII. But the question still remained, why is there inequality in consequences or social or economic status.

Conservatives finally hit on an explanation, sometime in the last 30-40 years I think. God made men equal in some regard - thus nodding to equality and democracy - but it was up to the individual to apply himself and someone who applied himself could do anything he wants to do.

Conservatives actually have a cognative dissonance at this point. On the one hand you say that the difference in status depends upon taking personal responsibility. On the other hand you are quick to point out that individuals are born with unequal talents - not at this point ascribing that directly to God - and that equality is unachievable because of the difference in talents that people are born with, ergo, differences in income and success are also due to the original inequality of talents.

This all plays out in a unique utopian fantasy created by conservatives which you call the "free market." The free market has the magical quality of rewarding talent and hard work and there is, thus, a direct causality between birth talent and hard work and economic consequences.

While you think you are not directly supporting social classes and inequality, you nevertheless have the attitude that God is a Republican who either created or lavishly approves of the free market and, therefore, no changes in what you see as the status quo is justified.

This, I maintain, is tantamount to supporting inequality, and in God's name, I might add.

There's a lot there for conservatives to love: (1) Palin imposed a windfall profits tax on oil and (2) raised taxes and incurred massive deficits in Wasilla to fund her pet projects, and (3) has neither the educational background or demonstrated understanding of economics, foreign policy, and/or military matters to be our Chief Executive. She has already lied about her background, but with politicians, that is practically pandemic.

Could you religious nut-jobs stop drooling long enough to explain how it is that, if experience as mayor of the city of Richmond (pop. 200,000) and three years as governor of Virginia (Gov. Tim Kaine's (D-VA) resume) is insufficient credential to qualify one for the office of Vice President (Karl Rove), it logically follows that being the mayor of a tiny hamlet (Wasilla, AK; pop. ~5,000 at the time) and a mere twenty months as governor of Alaska (less than one-tenth the population of Virginia) does?

Personally, I think that if the cover story is true, it reflects badly on Sarah Palin's personal judgment. And isn't that what the Party has been whining about since Day One?

Did Palin try to hide Bristol's indiscretion by faking her own pregnancy? That used to happen a lot back in the day, and it probably would have worked, had Palin not decided to step up in weight class. The problem is in the implausibility of her cover story, which paints her as displaying staggeringly poor judgment -- which necessarily taints McCain. Problem is, as the current leadership of the Republican Party is fresh out of ideas (they are more concerned with retaining power than in fixing the country), all they have left to play is the "judgment" card.

Frankly, if all there really was to the story was that a teen got pregnant, it wouldn't be much of a story; I say, good luck to the kid, and godspeed. But that ain't it, and Amanda Carpenter knows this as well as anyone.

Certainly, the photographic evidence in WaterBreakGate constitutes cause for suspicion, which takes it out of the set of pure hypotheticals you want so desperately to put it into. We have credible evidence warranting further investigation; whether it matures into proof is yet to be seen. Here's another oddity, as reported by TPM:

You need to understand what peace is
A common fallacy = "BOTH SIDES must desire peace for peace to be possible.
We are dealing with a death cult that does not want peace."

This is a deep misunderstanding about the nature of peace. Peace is not the
absence of war. It is not a state of being, but a process. Peace still resolves
conflicts. It does so in the only way that sticks - without violence.

Peace has never, even for a day, been on the table in the United States of
America. We have yet to acknowledge it as important or useful.

Very simply, when we take up peace as our guide rather than war, we will find
and resolve the root issues that create the Jihadis.

We cannot kill them all. Even if we did kill them all, their children would
return by another name.

It's time to wake up and start acting with wisdom. Humanity has been at endless

You asked me a hypothetical question and then are amazed that I give a
hypothetical answer?

It's really very simple. The best time to wage peace is always Right Now.

It's actually easy to stop a war. You simply put a human face on it. Both sides
are always guilty of making the enemy out to be a monster. Otherwise the
dignity of the people will rise up and put a stop to it.

To the extent that we can think of "our enemy" as ourselves in another
situation, we can and will resolve all problems with nonviolent means.

Does that mean there is no justice or airing of grievances? No. Peace is a real
process, not a pie in the sky.

Quite unlike the macho fairy tale that there will be "peace" if we simply kill
them all and let God sort them out. That may work in your first person shooter
game, but here in the real world you only create more violence when you step
into the cycle of violence.

Be wise. Be thoughtful. Be peace.

traditions. Why will we ignore our own wisdom traditions? What mad bloodthirst
is this to not recognize the moment for peace is at hand?

Blow up half of Iran and what is left? A very angry Iran and an inflamed middle
east. Where is the solution in your calls for violence. There is none. At the
end there is a pile of bodies and still the same problems remain.

Young boys! It is time to become men.

The call to peace is VASTLY more difficult. And yet it is our true purpose on
earth to live together in harmony.
